THE 3 LITTLE PIGS

Good Morning Everyone!  Storytime today was about fairy tales with the main story that we talked about being the "3 Little Pigs".   We started with doing the flannel board story of the 3 little pigs, with the kids helping to tell the story.

I shared two stories with the kids today, both were stories about the wolf and or the 3 little pigs but they had a twist to them.  The first one was called:  "The Three Horrid Little Pigs" by Liz Pichon.  This one took the three pigs and made the wolf the nice character.  The second one was called:  "Oops!"  by Colin McNaughton.  This one is about the big bad wolf and a little pig that goes into another story.

Our craft for the day was coloring pages of the 3 little pigs.

Welcome back to Story Time.

We had our first preschool Story Time today.  Our theme today was about the Library and what you should and should not do there.  But the main idea was that the Library is a fun place to be, especially storytime, because we can do a lot of fun things there.

I introduced the kids to Mr. Wiggles.  He showed them some things to be careful of with the books they read.  We read a book called Shout! Shout it out! by Denise Fleming to demonstrate how we can be noisy in storytime but not out in the library where we could disturb others.  We also read the book called, I took my Frog to the Lirary by Eric A. Kimmel and talked about why we don't bring our pets to the Library.

We read a book called Maybe A Bear Ate It! by Robie Harris and talked about lost books.

Our craft project for the day was a coloring book for each child that was their own mini book about the Library called, Button's Lost Library Book.

StoryTime @ the Library

Hello everyone!

Summer Reading is over.  We had a great turnout and a great time at all of the events.  Thank you to all those who participated.  This was one of the best attended years yet.

StoryTime will begin again on Sept. 7 @ 10:30 am at the Enterprise Library for our preschool storytime.  We look  forward to seeing everyone and hope to have a fun year.

Summer Reading is here!

Our summer reading program kicks off next week.  The theme this year is One World, Many Places.  We have lots of guests invited to come share about place they have been to or are from and we will have the puppet and magic shows this summer.

Come join us this summer.  Sign up starts on May 31st, there will be a kick off gathering on the 1st at 10:30 at the library for those that can attend.  Hope to see you there.

Where is SUMMER!

What is SUMMER?

Summer was the topic of our storytime today.  Perfect day for it as it was snowing!!!  This is the tree out front of the library.

We read the following books:
       Summer by Acorn
       Thumper's Summer Day
       and Summer Stink's by Marty Kelley

       

Craft for the day was to make a paper plate sun.
I took small paper plates and had them painted yellow.  I did this in advance to save time.  Then you draw a face on the plate.
Take orange and yellow construction paper and trace child hand and cut out.  Depending on what size plate you use will determine how many hands you need.  I used small plates and figured 4 hands of each color would work.  If your child has a very small hand you will need more.

Glue the yellow hands around the back and then the orange ones for the rays for your suns.  Let dry and display.  Here are pictures of the kids with their suns.

Water Week at the Library!

Today we talked about water at the library.
We shared stories with the kids about people and things that you do in and around water.  Some of the stories we share this week were:
Ladybug Girl at the Beach by David Soman and Jacky Davis
A Cool Drink of Water by Barbara Kerley
A fish out of water

Craft for this week we made water rings.  You take a large craft button, 1 piece of pipe cleaner and cut a small piece of sponge.  You thread the pipe cleaner through the button and twist it around your finger like a ring, take the piece of sponge and place it over the twist then twist the pipe cleaner around to hold the sponge.  Then you take and fold the pipe cleaner down to the sides and  and cut of the ends ( you don't want the sharp ends to poke anyone).  You may place a jewel type decoration on the top with glue if desired. Then you can wet the sponge, shake hands with someone and get there hand all wet.  Kids love them, even boys!

Today we talked about Frogs.  The books we read where:

The Wide-Mouthed Frog, by Keith Faulkner - illustrated by Jonathon Lambert

We also showed the kids pictures of different frogs and showed them they could be many different colors than green, from a book by Thomas Marent called frog.

 Our craft today was to make a frog puppet.  Supplies needed are a brown sandwich bag; red, green, black and white contact paper.  You can have the kids color or paint the paper bag however they would like.  We had them color on them however they wanted.

From the green paper you need 2 large circles and 2 arms.  From the red a strip for the tounge and from the white and black 2 circles.  The white needs to be a little smaller than the green ones and the black need to be the smallest.

Glue the black circle to the white one and then glue to the green circle.  Glue this to the part of the bag that would be the bottom if the bag was opened.  Take the red strip and glue it under the flap, you can take a pencil and curl this to make the tounge curl.  take the 2 arm peices and glue them to the sides, make sure you don't glue the sides together or it might tear when you place your hands inside the bag to make your puppet move.
