New blog!

I have created a new blog for storytime.  Hopefully this one will allow me to add the pictures and stuff to the blog.  Here is the link:  www.storytimeinenterprise2013.blogspot.com.

PENGUINS

We had a small group today, lots of sickness in our area.  Hopefully everyone gets feeling better for Christmas!

Books Read:
PLAYFUL LITTLE PENGUINS by Tony Mitton
LOST AND FOUND by Oliver Jeffers
Pippa's Penguin by Susan M. Dailey (this was an online story)

Fingerplays:

Five Perky Penguins
Five perky penguins stood on the shore.
One went for a swim and then there were four.
four perky penguins looked out to sea.
one went swimming and then there were three
Three perky penguins, "What can we do?"
One jumped in the water and then there were two.
Two perky penguins sat in the sun.
One swam off and then there was one.
One perky penguin said, "This in no fun!"
He dived in the water and then there were none.

Two Little Penguins
Two little penguins sitting on the ice (hold up two fingers)
One bows once, the other bows twice (make fingers bow)
Waddle little penguins, waddle away. (put fingers behind back)
Come back penguins, time to play! (bring fingers to the front)

I found these on various sites.  I need to do a better job of writing down exactly where I find them to make sure the credit goes to the correct person.  I am not this creative!

We closed by singing "If your a Penguin and you Know It Waddle Like This"

Craft:
Simple craft today.  I found an ABC dot to dot for a penguin for the kids to do and then color.  I also gave the mom's a pattern to make a paper penguin puppet at home.  It was a little to complicated to do in the storytime setting.

Thanks for viewing.  Cya next week.

SNOW, SNOW, SNOW

Where is the snow?!

As winter is here, without snow!, we read books about snow today:
SNOW! SNOW! SNOW! by Lee Harper
SNOW FRIENDS by M. Christina Butler
SNOWMEN AT NIGHT by Caralyn Buehner
Activities:
Flannel of Five Snowmen:
Five snowmen fat.
Each with a black top hat.
Out came the sun and melted one,
Down, down, Down.
Four snowmen fat!

We pretended it was snowing outside and went through the motions of what we would do to get ready to go play, like putting on our boots, hats, coats, gloves, etc.  Then going outside and jumping in the snow, stomping around, making snowballs and having a fight and then we made snow angels.

I had them pretend to be snowmen and melt and then thanks to one of the moms we sang the song:
"Once there was a Snowman!"

Craft:  I gave them three snowballs to paste on a paper and make their own snowman.  I also had them scratch off some christmas tree decorations to decorate our tree at the library.

Thanks everyone for coming and participating.  Cya next week.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE?

What do you want to be or what do you like to do was the subject of our storytime today.  We had a great turnout and a lot of fun with the kids.  The stories we read today were very interactive and allowed the kids to participate.

Song:
If your Happy and You Know It.

Books Read:
I'd Like to BE by Steven Kroll
Whose Shoes? A shoe for every job by Stephen Swinburne
Who Is Driving? by Leo Timmers

Craft:  Simple craft today.  I had the kids draw a picture of what they want to be or do.  As always they do a great jov.  Here are some pictures of the crafts.

The 1st Thanksgiving

As we did not have a storytime last week due to Thanksgiving we had our thanksgiving storytime today.  After our warm up song, we discussed the first Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims and the Indians.

Books used:
Sarah Morton's Day,(A Day in the Life of a Pilgrim Girl)
The Littlest Pilgrim by Brandi Dougherty
Thanksgiving is . . . by Gail Gibbons

Activity's:
I showed them how to be boats, by putting feet together, holding hands and rocking back and forth and we sang and song to the tune of Row, Row, Row your boat about pilgrims sailing.

Craft:
We made indian headbands.  The kids did a great job.  Here are some photos of the day:

OOPS!  It is not letting me upload the pictures.  I will check back and add them later when I find out why they are not working.

Have a great day!

Safari

Enterprise Storytime went on a trip today.  We took the kids on a SAFARI(without ever leaving the room of course!).

We read the following books:
HIPPOSPOTAMUS BY JEANNE WILLIS
WHAT TO DO IF AN ELEPHANT STANDS ON YOUR FOOT BY MICHELLE ROBINSON
ROAR! A NOISY COUNTING BOOK BY PAMELA D EDWARDS
and WAY FAR AWAY ON A WILD SAFARI BY JON PECK

I took the kids on a safari using the finger/action play called "LET'S GO FOR A JUNGLE WALK"  that goes like this:  Let's go for a jungle walk (beckon with hand), and listen to the animals talk (cup hand behind ear), Grab your binoculars and we're on our way! (hold up binoculars).  Look at the great big Crocodile (look through binoculars), Doesn't he have a beautiful smile? We could watch him swim all night and day.  Then it goes on with other animals, like a monkey, giraffe, zebra and snake.  I had pictures around the room of the different animals and as we went through each verse and did the different actions we turned around and looked for the different animals through our binoculars (hands).  The suggestion in the book that I found this idea suggested giving them the binoculars during the finger play but I felt it would be to hard to get them back this the amount of kids that I have.

Our craft for the day was to decorate their own pair of binoculars.  I pre made these due to using stapler and tying knots.  I felt it would get to confusing trying to do each one due to the amount of kids participating.  Anyway, cut a piece of cardstock in half the long way.  Take the short ends and roll them into the middle so that you have two circles, then staple both sides.  Puch holes in each side and tie a piece of yarn through them so they can hang around the neck.  I had some animal foam stickers I let them decorate them with.  Here are some picture:

Thanks everyone!

Next week is the day before thanksgiving.  We will be having storytime.  I am going to try to do something with pilgrims and the first thanksgiving.  Hope to see you there.  Chris

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

I invited the kids to come dressed up if they wanted to storytime as it is Halloween today.  We had a few takers.  They looked cute in their costumes.

As it is Halloween, we read Halloween stories today:
THE MONSTERS' MONSTER by Patrick McDonnell (cute book!)
JUST SAY BOO! by Susan Hood and
THE LITTLE OLD LADY WHO WAS NOT AFRAID OF ANYTHING by Linda Williams (this one I did with stick puppets)

We did the Skeleton Dance and If you're a Monster and you know it for songs today.

Craft:  I gave them bags and stickers to decorate and then they went trick or treating in the library.

Thank you for checking out our blog.  Have a safe and happy Halloween!
Chris

PIGS AND PORK

We had Heather Christensen from the Utah Pork Producers come and share a special storytime with the kids today.  She brought a minature barn with her that the kids where able to see and touch.  She shared a story with the kids about Flat Stanley and his trip to the Pig Farm and explained as part of the story what happens at the pig farms.

It was a lot of fun to hear how they raise pigs.  Not in the old mud puddles that I remember.

She brought a color book and a Flat Stanley for each of the kids.

Here are pictures from todays storytime:

Thank you for coming and sharing this special storytime with us.  Cya next week.
