HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE . . .

Good Morning!

Welcome song: "If Your Happy and You Know It!

ABC's. We went through the song and then I introduced the kids to signing the Alphabet.  We started with ABC and will work on the others as we go.  I read a book to the kids that was the ABC's in sign language and we tried to do the signs as we went.  Thanks to Marlene Bollinger for loaning it to me.

We then did the "Cow jumped over the moon" nursury rhyme.  I passed out cards to the kids and as we said the rhymes they brought them to me to place on the board and then we spelled out some of the basic words in the rhyme.

I then read the following books:
Mrs. WOW Never Wanted a Cow by Martha Freeman
Moo Who? by Margie Palatini
Cock-A-Doodle-Moo by Bernard Most

Craft:  We made cows jumping over the moon.  You take a plate a color it for your moon and stars, or however you want to do it, one kid drew a house.  You take your cow which I have a template for that I got online.  You attach them together with a brad and you have your cow who jumped over the moon.

Thanks to everyone for coming.  Cya all next week.

Chris

PS - I have pictures but the system would not let me load them today.  I will try later.  Thanks again!

E is for . . .

ELEPHANTS!
Welcome song:  If Your Happy and you Know It!

We sang the ABC song.  We tried to go backwards, we will need to practice that one.  I introduced the letter "E" and gave the kids some facts about elephants.

I passed out 5 elephants and we did the flannel story of "5 Elephants in a Bathtub!"

Read the following stories to the kids:
ELMER BY DAVID MCKEE
THE TROUBLE WITH ELEPHANTS BY CHRIS RIDDELL
SEVEN BLIND MICE BY ED YOUNG
ELEPHANTS CANNOT DANCE! BY MO WILLEMS

I also shared a story I got off of the internet call "No More Car Wash Blues" and had the kids help me put the story in order by flash cards after I went through the story.  They did a great job.

Craft:
We made elephants out of shapes.  I cut out circles, rectangles and triangles and had the kids glue them together to make elephants.  Theirs were awesome!  We used google eyes for the eyes but you could cut out circles also.  Here are the kids with their crafts.

Thanks for coming!  Cya next week!

DINOSAURS ROAR!!!

Dinosaurs were the subject of storytime this week.  We talked about what extinct means and how big some dinosaurs were.  I took a measuring tape and measured out on the floor  how tall some of the dinosaurs were and then we played a dinosaur game where I gave everyone a different colored dinosaur and had them do actions based off the color they were holding.  I then read the following stories:
ABC T-Rex by Bernard Most, this was an abc book about a hungry dinosaur as he ate his way through the alphabet.
Edwina, the dino who didn't know she was extinct by Mo Willems, this was about a boy who tried to convince everyone dinos where extinct including Edwina.
Dinosaur Days, about Harold taking his purple crayon and drawing a story about dinos.

Activites we did:
Song:  Did you Ever See a Dinosaur? (tune of ever see a lassie?)
Dinosaur Hunt with hand actions

Craft time:  We made our own dinosaur eggs
printed a picture of a baby dinosaur on one paper, cut out a big egg shape on another.  colored the egg and the dinosaur then you cut the egg in half as if it has hatched. take a brad and poke it through the two pieces of egg and the dinosaur page.  open and close the egg to show what is hatching.

Thanks for coming!  Cya next week.
